Why do you need our teeth cleaning services?

A regular home prevention oral routine usually consists of brushing at least twice a day and flossing at least once per day.

Did you know that there are tools that can make oral health care an easier routine?

Depending on your needs, special types of toothpastes, mouthwashes, and flossing tools can help you keep your bright smile for years to come. At Trident Smiles Dental, we can help you find the best tools to improve your personal oral care routine and make your cleaning appointments shorter and less stressful. However, even with the best habits and tools, visiting your dentist and getting a professional dental cleaning every 6 months is recommended.

Why do you need a professional dental cleaning?

  • To control bacteria that cause bad breath
  • To get rid of plaque and prevent cavity formation
  • To treat any abnormality in a timely manner
  • To avoid expensive surgery

What can professional dental cleaning prevent?

Getting preventive care reduces the risk of developing mouth diseases. By identifying warning signs as early as possible, you can keep your oral hygiene in check.

What are the steps of dental cleaning?

  • Step 1

Your Sunnyvale dentist will examine your mouth to make sure that there are no abnormalities like swollen gums, dark spots, etc.

  • Step 2

It’s now time to scrape away any tartar build-up from the surface of the teeth and in areas that are hard to reach with a toothbrush. This is a normal step to take and won’t cause you any pain.

  • Step 3

After all the plaque has been removed, your dentist will now polish your teeth to get rid of any bacteria or stains. In some cases, your dentist might use fluoride during this step to protect your teeth and reduce the chances of getting cavities.

Oral cancer screening

During your visit, our team of orthodontics will run through your medical history and update your file. Even the smallest changes in the soft tissues of your mouth will be examined closely for us to be able to detect cancer early on and therefore, save your life. At Trident, our team of dentists are highly trained to detect  even the smallest abnormality.

Educate new patients

While a professional dental cleaning can help you avoid gum disease, cavities and many other conditions, they can also help you choose the right tools and learn the best ways to protect your smile.

Post-treatment instructions

  • Wait 30 minutes before eating or drinking. This wait time gives the topical fluoride treatment a chance to bond with the tooth enamel. Drinking acidic or fizzy drinks will wash away the fluoride before it fuses with the minerals that form the surface of the teeth. If the patient is thirsty, they should only sip water.
  • Avoid hot foods and drinks for 4 hours after teeth cleaning. Hot food and drinks can dissolve the fluoride before it has a chance to set permanently. The heat can also be uncomfortable for the patient experiencing tender gums and sensitive teeth after the cleaning.

Oral hygiene

  • Brush gently before bed. Use a toothbrush with soft bristles to clean the teeth, making sure to be gentle with the teeth and gums. The temptation to skip the nightly brush may be a thing that happens, but power through and brush your teeth unless the dentist tells you differently.
